The Sailing Chapter

People used to tell me, “You ought to write a book about your sailing.”

I never did.

Not because the story was small, but because it was only one chapter long.

A single, bright piece of my life that did not seem enough to stand on its own.

But here, inside Movement, it finally has a place.

I sailed for years.

Not as a hobby, not as a weekend pastime, but as a way of living.

It was the first time in my life that the world opened up instead of closing in.

I had spent my childhood working.

Milk rounds, grocery deliveries, furniture moving, pigeons to race starts.

School was for resting, not learning.

Life was weight, responsibility, and early mornings.

Sailing was the opposite.

It was freedom.

It was direction.

It was the first time I ever felt the world was bigger than the street I grew up on.

Learning the wind, the tides, the quiet rules of the sea.

No noise, no pressure, no crowds.

Just water, sky, and the steady rhythm of movement.

We travelled far.

We saw places I never expected to see.

We lived simply, slept lightly, and woke with the sun.

There was no rush.

No deadlines.

No weight on my shoulders.

It was the first time in my life I felt rest.

Not the kind of rest you get from sitting down.

The kind of rest that comes from being exactly where you are meant to be.

People said, “You ought to write a book.”

But a book needs poetic licence.

Movement does not.

Movement lets me tell the truth exactly as it happened.

No polishing.

No stretching.

No drama.

Just the real story of a man who spent his early life working, and found his first breath of freedom on the sea.

And now that story sits here, not as a book, but as part of a lifetime.

One chapter among many.

One piece of the journey that led to clarity.

Movement is a resting and learning place.

You can rest here too.
